Don't know much about it but I know the Ausable river has great smelt fishing! Random comment of the day. Stick to the bay in Grand Marais if it is too windy! Pike, Walleye, Perch, Whitefish, Bass, and I have herd the Coho come into the bay some nights when the bait is in. That is what a guy said at the Hardware store.

are there fishable numbers of perch and whitefish in there or do they just come randomly? and are you talking about the ausable in the lower? I was simming in there the other day and there was a school of browns eating the horseflys that were around trying to bight people

I don't know about White fish but perch yeah. I know they get the white fish off the piers in June, and in the fall. You will get the biggest pike and walleye of your life in the bay. The biggest pike I have ever seen came at the mouth of the sucker in the weeds. The one I told you about. 56 inches. No lie.
