I also fished that friday night, and ended up with 2 ( an 8 pounder and a 12-13 lb.)  Since I dont own any meat rigs my fish came on a spin doctor/ and one on a spoon( silver and black).  The first fish came at about 7:30 pm  (cst) it had nothing in its stomach the second came about 1 hour later and its stomach was full of alewife and and smelt.   I do have a couple meat rig questions.  What is a good brand , and what do you use for "meat" .  Also do you run them on setups other then wire divers?

HI
Big weenie or Capt Johns seem to be the best. My buddy at busting water tackle makes his own customer meat rigs and they are awesome. For meat run actual herring strips or BTB(better ten bait...a fake strip which when soaked in herring oil can be quite effective). The most effective seems to be off of braid or wire dispsy's. BTB purchased at garden sport shop and herring strips at places like Mackinac outfitters or gander mountain.

From all the posts regarding dead alewives, maybe just scooping a few over the side to run in your rigs would work well. Lot less $ than the crazy price they charge for the other stuff.
