Title: Blueberries?
Post by: chum bucket on August 28, 2017, 05:22:31 AM
Anybody been out looking for blueberries yet?  Don't really find them here in Menominee. Just looking for a report before I head north to look.
Thanks

With all the spring and summer rain, I expected a more widespread crop. A couple spots that produce well and are usually protected from Spring frosts were nearly empty; other spots where they were abundant had patches with nothing as well.

I got good reports and picked all I wanted but...

I did notice the berries werent as heavy as some years and also not in the usual great areas

Through the years I have noticed light rain and dew seem to produce the best berry years.

Perhaps nutrients percolate down too far during heavy and extended rain periods?

Ive also noticed recently burned areas really makes them go wild but there hasnt been too much of that where I pick.

Blueberries were small this year. Not as many as usual. Raspberries were small but a lot of them. Blackberries are really good. Maybe another week around here. Will be plenty of jam this winter.

I had a slab of blueberry pie for dinner tonight. Oh yeah!
