In 2014 a prison guard from Baraga went out there and thought he would be the only one! As it turned out there were 13 ice shanties out there, as told to me by a prison guard from Munising last season!

Triple 7 Taxidermy in Negaunee has done many fish for us. He did a 31# Laker and a 29.8# Laker for me and my son last year, both very nice! He is doing a 40.1# Laker a customer of ours caught this season. Did a nice 11pt. whitetail for me too. :thmb:

Yes, but it will have to be a day we both can agree on. Like a mid week thing.

I do remember that trip. It was a local trip and I would never charge anybody extra for being late, I usually stay out longer that the 4 hours which is dock to dock!  If Dave did charge him extra it was not with my knowledge! If I did call Dave over it would have been to tell him to cut you a break on the cost. Now, I'm sure Dave collected the money because I rarely do, and he does not tell me what he does!
All that being said, engine problems happen and if you were not happy I'll gladly make it up to you. We do charge a nominal fee for cleaning fish because of the disposal of the carcasses, usually if it is only a couple of fish we don't worry about it, but when there are several we do. The fish cleaning and ice to take your fish home in are optional. I assure you I am not a thief or dishonest, get you crew together and I will make it up!

Hi all

I just want to mention that I run the Stannard Rock trips for Kimars Charters. Please don't "dis" me because you don't like someone else! For the last 23 years as a Captain I have tried my best for ALL my customers and have had really amazing results! All of which are documented since I started in 1992, and would be glad to share those results. Ask anybody, even the other Charter Captains these comments are NOT directed at me.

What have you got against me? The "other guy is Shelter Bay"! I have OVER 500 documented trips to STANNARD ROCK, don't think anybody else anywhere can say that. Not even Jim Maki he had only about 400 when he quit.

We have had some success jigging. The problem is that unlike the ROCK, it does not have all the peaks and valleys that you target which hold the fish. So, it is much more productive to troll and cover more area.

Well, I have a heart breaking story from the Rock. All on video too! We hooked a huge fish on a spoon casting, my customer a seasoned fisherman battled this thing for 57 minutes. We had to chase it twice with the boat because it almost spooled him. He was getting tired after almost an hour and the fish after having had him up near the halfway mark in the water column  several times went to the bottom (5 feet off) and would not move. we could see the fish on the fish finder. The customer said he was going to try and put a little pressure on him and when he did broke the line!!! The fish we were watching on the finder immediately went from 5 feet off right to the bottom. End of story

Fishing at the Big Reef has been good. We got one 40lbs. 2 oz. a few days ago!

Usually after the ice is out the near shore fishing is good but after those fish move out it can be very difficult to catch salmon & trout without a boat in this area. If you are going to fish right in Munising Bay, try the mouth of the Anna River by the paper mill and along that shoreline by the hospital.

Good luck!
