Off Topic / Cindy Rivers benefit
« on: January 08, 2018, 05:05:50 PM »
Here is the prize package Diane and I are donating to the Cindy Rivers fundraiser, coming up this weekend. An HT ice rod combo, perfect for walleyes. Along with a Vexilar tackle bag, and three of my favorite icefishing lures for Bay de Noc walleyes.

Cindy is my brothers mother-in-law, and a hell of a great lady! She's a two time breast cancer survivor, and is now battling pancreatic cancer.

The benefit this weekend at the Great Lakes Sport and Rec club in Escanaba will have a ton of great silent auction prizes, (including at least a couple more fishing outfits, that I know of.)

Hope to see you there.

Ice Fishing / 2018 fish photo contest
« on: January 01, 2018, 10:35:35 AM »
WooHoo - first post on UPA in 2018! Happy new Year, everyone!

Time for Bay View Bait and Tackles annual winter fish photo contest. There are just a few simple rules.

All fish must be legally caught on hook and line, from Upper Peninsula waters.

No age limit. If you can catch and hold a fish, you can enter your photo. One entry per person, per day. Photos must have the anglers face in the picture. Photos showing fish on the ice next to a boot or can will be shared, but not entered into the contest, (we want to see happy anglers with their catch!)

Contest week will run Thursday thru Wednesday. Photo entries must be from the current contest week. Thursday morning, a name will be drawn at random from that weeks entries. The winner will get a $20 gift certificate to the baitshop. We will allow entries from January 1st and 2nd into the first weeks contest. First drawing will be held on January 11th.

Photos can be emailed to baitshop2@chartermi.net, sent in a personal message on this site, or stop by the shop with your catch and we'll take a picture for you.

LETS SEE SOME FISH PICTURES!

Lake Michigan / Time for big pike
« on: October 07, 2017, 04:23:24 PM »
Today's conditions are screaming "big pike time!" Overcast, south wind, falling barometer and water temps. I know if I was feeling better, that's what I'd be doing, right now. Find yourself a good weed bed and start trolling some big, musky sized spinners or crankbaits. This is one of the best times of the year for a shot at a 40+ inch slimer!

Speaking of big slimers, my dad put his good friend Max Hurd on this 41 inch pike back in September. His biggest one ever! Got it on a sucker minnow under a slip bobber in the Escanaba harbor. After a few quick pics, it was released.

Nice one, Max!
