« on: January 30, 2018, 07:40:18 PM »

Gun Talk / Shooting P.dogs
« on: February 11, 2017, 09:38:20 PM »
Heading to the Rosebud Reservation to shoot some P.dogs again this summer. Going to take my new Xmas present. A cooper model 21 varmint topped with a 8 x 32 Nikon scope. chambered in a Ruger 204. Only one thing I can say about this gun is from the trigger to the target SWEET. Worked up a load 32 grain hornady V max. 29 grains of Hodgdon CFE 223 powder with a federal 205 primer. Last couple times we went I took a Ruger and a Remington. I can tell you right now this rifle out shot the other two on paper like you would not believe. Can't wait should be a great shoot. :usa:

Hunting / Trapping / cat tags
« on: December 23, 2016, 06:43:35 PM »
On the way to work Wed.I saw a big cat cross the road. Went to buy a fur harvester license and could not get the cat tags. They said I had to buy them before Dec.1. Doesn't make sense, but I could get my otter tags. Haven't trapped in four years because of fur prices down. Just wondering why. Just wondering if it is a stunt by the MDNR to make people buy a license even if they are no sure they are going to trap. Not a happy trapper.

Gun Talk / Jewell Trigger
« on: April 04, 2015, 04:18:22 PM »
Heading out to South Dakota to shoot some P-dogs in June. Wanted to take a spare rifle so I bought a Rem. 700 VLS in a 204 Ruger. Topped it off with a 8 X 32 Nikon. At 100 yds. had a hard time shooting 1 inch groups. Factory trigger just sucked. Just installed a new jewell trigger and at 100 yds. 3 shots look like a clover leaf. Hard to believe how much of a improvement it was. Can't wait to send some of them P-dogs to the big clover patch in the sky.

Hunting / Trapping / Broadhead Review
« on: October 01, 2014, 09:35:34 PM »
Just wondering what people use for broadheads. Here is a pic . of a buck we took tonight using N.A.P. F.O.C. broadhead with a 3 inch cut. Hit was a double lung. As the buck ran straight away you could see the blood squirt out about a foot from the side of the exit wound. In the last five years we took 9 bucks. The farthest one ever made it was about 80 yards. 8 out of the 9 we took we watched go down they never made it off the rye patch.

Hunting / Trapping / The Otter Gods
« on: January 29, 2014, 03:37:48 PM »
These pics. are from trapping this season. We target otter in our sets. Last Sunday was number 6 for the year so we pulled traps. In our years of trapping the 18 pound female we took Sunday was number 35. The largest female we took was 22 pounds and the largest male was 27 pounds. Last year we averaged $99.00 a piece. Hopefully this year prices will be a little better. The money goes for gas to head to South Dakota for shooting P. dogs. For you trappers when setting for otter always gang set with at least 3 traps. Many times we will double with 2 at a time most of the time they travel in pairs. All otter are taken under the ice or in a rapids that does not freeze but traps have to be under water and you use a dive stick.
