Lake Superior / Just moved to Marquette
« on: April 03, 2017, 11:08:25 AM »
Well I just moved to the Marquette area on Saturday, took a job transfer. Living on the airforce base (I know I know...but its cheap housing!). Looking to make some connections and any tips on fishing Lake Superior out of Marquette. From what ive gathered so far it seems to be mainly a lake trout fishery with coho/steel in the spring. I have a 19 foot sea nymph great lakes special that I will be fishing out of. Feel free to PM me, id be glad to share phone numbers and willing to use my boat if you wanna show me the ropes.

Ended 1/2, really slow. Had lines set ten mins to 6, first hit came a little before 7 on 3 color off a board with mixed veggies. Atlantic launching 3 feet in the air threw the hook second jump. Pulled lines around 1030 and had a small king on the rigger down 50 with 2 color on black screwball. Everyone was doing poorly, only 1 fish if that.

Lake Huron / Detour this weekend?

I have the time and money to make it down to detour this weekend, just wondering if the fishing would be worth it to drive from the Soo with this cold front coming through?

Went 0/1 last night trolling for salmon. Had a rod get ripped hard for about 5 seconds. Grabbed the pole felt the fish shake and then it was gone. Hit right in front of the canadian powerhouse on a purpledescent rapala deep diver. Seen one other fish netted same area, bunch of fish jumping.

Lake Huron / Boat Launch off of St. Martin Pt. Road??
« on: July 31, 2013, 08:45:20 AM »
Is there any type of boat launch off of St. Martin Point Road? My uncle said a few years back they launched a boat somewhere between nunns creek and Hessel. He said they launched like a 20ft boat so it sounds like a decent size launch, but maybe gravel. I know if there is a launch its not a very well known one I dont think. If anyone knows of one i'd like to know, throwing around a few ideas for the fall  grin()

Went 10 for 15 out of detour monday morning. 5 kings, 4 atlantics and 1 laker. Went up to the UP this weekend to try to catch some atlantics in the soo but that was a bust. Met up with a buddy to fish in his boat out of detour and man was it worth it! Ill try to give a detailed report but some of the spoons we used I dont remember lol.

Woke up at 4am, left house at 430, launched at 530, first rigger set at 6:00am. Before we get the next rod out that rigger goes off. 48ft down on moonshine bloody nose. Since no other lines are out I turn the boat to chase the fish, 15lb king landed after a few minutes. Get all the diver rods set before the lead cores are put out. Dont remember what one it was but boated our second king, had a tangle up so took a few minuted before lines were set back out. After that its a blur as to what fish was caught when. But I know the rigger down 48 with moonshine bloody nose was the hot rod. 3 kings and laker. 3 atlantics came off the dipsy 70 back with a #1 dispy on setting 2 green flasher/ orangish fly. 4th atlantic came off of 5 color with tadpole diver and Stinger bloody nose. Took a king on dipsy 120 back and blue chilly willy. Lost a big king on 5 color and tadpole with mag SS moonshine. Stinger monkey puke also took a king. Dipsies were 60, 70, and 120 back all day and all took fish, one braind and two mono. Fished from 6am till 3pm. Would've left earlier but our last 3 hookups all resulted in lost fish. Marked temp 30-50 down.

Oddly enough kings went 15, 14, 13, 12, and 11lbs lol, laker was 4lb, biggest atlantic was 7lb and smallest 2.5lb

Lake Huron / Soo this weekend
« on: July 25, 2013, 07:49:17 AM »
Heading up to the Soo this weekend to do some fishing. Planning on fucusing on the atlantics but will fish for whatever bites. Just looking for any advice on atlantics anyone is willing to give. So far ive been told whole smelt work good at the powerhouse, or try flies or spinners. I have smelt I can use luckily. I also want to try trolling for them and any kings that might be in yet. I dont have riggers but I have a few dispsies and spoons. Have  a decent selection of body baits also, im thinking stick with smelt colors? Thanks for any tips.
