Trout/Salmon / Steelhead
« on: November 29, 2016, 09:51:05 AM »
Is it my imagination or for some reason or another are the steelhead staying out in the lake this fall? I have had some luck but it has not been a good fall fishing for river bound steelhead. Has anyone had good catches of steelhead?

Lake Huron / Fishing Reports
« on: September 21, 2015, 09:31:56 AM »
All three fishing blogs that I monitor have had fewer fishing reports with less fish being caught. The salmon fishing has gone downhill fast, not many steelhead or brown trout, a few atlantics being caught. Looks like the silver mine has been tapped out. Plenty of lake trout being caught. I wonder what the DNR is thinking, this has to be costing them money. For the most part I am done wasting my time and money chasing salmon. I am really disappointed in the numbers of salmon that I have caught in the last two years. I know that the DNR wants to plant more steelhead which take about 7 years to reach 10 pounds and atlantic salmon. The atlantics do not spawn in rivers for the most part.

Walleye / Walleye
« on: August 04, 2015, 08:18:40 AM »
After a nice little rain storm last night I settled into my walleye hole for a couple of hours. It wasn't long before the preferred bait proved lethal. I left with 4 of them, just could not get #5 to bite. We know what is for dinner tonight. No big ones just 4 good eater size in the 16 to 20 inch range.

Trout/Salmon / Chinook v Atlantic Salmon
« on: July 16, 2015, 09:29:45 AM »
The DNR is thinking that the Atlantic Salmon is going to replace the Chinook and Coho salmon as the ultimate great lakes sport fish. The Atlantic Salmon is a much better eating salmon no doubt at all. When a person has thousands of dollars invested in gear for Chinook fishing they will not go out and spend thousands more to change up their gear for fishing Atlantics. Atlantic salmon can be more difficult to catch and don't fight like a chinook. Really the DNR expects people to be excited when they replace a 20 pound chinook with a 6 pound atlantic.

Inland Lake Fishing / Pike
« on: July 15, 2015, 09:37:57 AM »
Caught a 38 inch 15 pound pike and a 34 in 12 pound pike last night. I can't disclose the location but it always gives up a decent pike or two.

Lake Huron / Straits Salmon
« on: August 20, 2014, 08:41:56 AM »
After several trips out and throughout the straits I have concluded that there will be very few kings to be caught unless they show up in September. We have tried just about everything and cannot produce very many kings. I am thinking that the water temps are too cold due to the long winter and overflow coming out of Lake Superior.

Lake Huron / St Marys Pike
« on: August 05, 2014, 09:42:00 AM »
Due to the lack of good salmon fishing I hit the St Marys on Saturday for some pike fishing and hit a 42 inch 14 pound pike. It is nice to see a few of these hogs around again.

Lake Huron / Straits
« on: July 11, 2014, 10:33:47 AM »
Going out tonight and tomorrow night to hit Graham Shoal and Major Shoal for trout and salmon. My guess is that the salmon are hanging out in that area and more than likely in the upper 50 fow. We will rig a couple of poles for lake trout so that we don't get skunked. I will post the results. So far this summer not many people have been out fishing in the straits.

Trout/Salmon / Carp River

Is it still iced over? Can you drive through to the mouth yet? I have a 4x4 so no problem if there is some snow on the road yet. I was thinking about going other than ice fishing this weekend.
