We also had spotty fishing.  Fished the morning and afternoon of Thursday July 2nd.  We got into some lake trout early... had 4 Lakers in the box before the sun came up.  Not what we were looking for!!
All lakers were high in water and caught on 6 color lead core and spoons.  We got 2 small 3-5lb salmon later in the day about 60 down on riggers and missed one steelhead.  We fished in the "gap"
Fished were marked, but few and far between.

I'd say its about as rude as you can get.  Maybe they can drop a net right in the marina next time.

A south wind can't be all bad.  Look at a map.  I agree a straight south wind will pinch a bunch of ice between both break-walls and land.  Guess what, the upper and lower harbors are already jammed up so it can't get much worse.  If we can get a big portion of the ice to blow north I will take that for starters!   We can speculate all we want just gonna have to wait and see.  This is getting to be depressing thou!   cry()

Did you see any nets?  I never made it out of the marina! Was backing out from the dock and my steering cable snapped.  I guess its better to have it happen in the marina than out on the lake.  Thanks for the report.  See ya next year!

Lake Superior / Marquette Lower Harbor Net
« on: October 28, 2013, 02:33:28 PM »
Sunday 10/27

Just figured I would give any late season fisherman a heads up that there is some type of net directly off the head of the lower harbor break-wall!  I lucked out because watched the guys set it.  Its marked with some fairly decent orange buoys, but if you want start trolling prior to getting to the end of the wall, and are heading toward the Chocolay your screwed.
Went 4-5 on Lakers on a solo mission so the trip wasn't to bad!  Done with it for the year.  Time to deer hunt!

The weasel at the fish cleaning station is getting a little to friendly for my liking! Thought he was going to climb right up the unit and grab a fish!
