Walleye / "Opener"
« on: May 15, 2006, 05:26:58 PM »
Despite the crappy weather we've been having, sounds like some good reports from LBDN. Lots of limits early in the day.
Hopefully we'll get a full report from FishtiCuffs tomorrow. Good Luck, You'll need it. Always a fair share of "nut-jobs" during opening week. Anyways, save some for me. C-ya Thursday.

Off Topic / "Ark Assembly"
« on: May 12, 2006, 10:29:46 PM »
Looking for instructions on how to assemble an Ark. Knee deep in  H2frickin-O! No relief in sight. Nuttin' but rain in the forecast, lake looks like choco milk, 550 is washed out, M-28 access site is flooded about to the road, boat is tied to basketball pole so it doesn't drift away, and waldo season starts in two days. This is lovely!

Lake Superior / Huron Bay Results
« on: May 07, 2006, 06:17:35 PM »
Spent the weekend on Huron Bay and got a little spring King action.
Results were not great, but not bad either. We ended up with only four Salmon and nine Lakers. It looked quite promising from the start as the graph was filled with balls of bait and lots of nice hooks. Unfortunately the east wind and cold front didn't seem to help us any. May have to make a return trip in a week or two. Good Luck!

Lake Superior / Kings in Munising
« on: May 04, 2006, 07:30:30 PM »
I stopped by the launch in Munising this morning and there were three boats fishing and one loading up. I asked the two "grizzled" gents how the fishin was, and they said, "have a look at dis!"
They had 2 salmon in the cooler. One coho and one King. They said the King was 17lbs. I don't think I could disagree, it was pretty nice. They said they had caught an eleven pounder Monday. When asked what they were hittin' on his reply was, "fishin lures".  Aaa wise guy! Get out there!

Lake Superior / "9lb King"-No really!
« on: April 30, 2006, 03:45:30 PM »
We were pleasantly suprised this morning with a 9.1lb King. It sure made the box look better than the one laker and one coho that we had. Would be nice to see some more of those showing up. Only problem was he hit on the "wrong" side of the boat! Can't wait to start heading south.

Lake Superior / Autrain Ramp
« on: April 28, 2006, 09:49:11 PM »
The dock is in the water at Autrain and the launch is open. They have postponed the work on the ramp until June. It was supposed to start on Mon. April 24 but they fortunately rescheduled. Fish-On!

Trout/Salmon / In search of Salmonoids!
« on: April 28, 2006, 09:45:03 PM »

Fished Wednesday night until dark. Three lakers, no salmon. Have heard a few reports of some 7-10 pound kings being caught. Not bad for ol' Gitchee Gumee!

Walleye / Menominee River
« on: April 05, 2006, 09:23:38 PM »
Lots of boats fishing the mouth of the Menominee today. Nice sunny 60 degree day. Must be catchin' somethin'. May have to cure the walleye itch and make a tug south soon. I wanna hurt some fish!

Off Topic / "Moose on the Loose"
« on: April 03, 2006, 09:29:07 PM »
On our way to check out the Upper Harbor wave carnage April 1st we had quite the surprise. Seeing as how the lake wasn't much to look at this particular morning, I was daydreaming out my window about calmer waters when I spotted a pair of "horse-like" legs trotting towards the dome. Well, A quick right-hand turn verified I hadn't been drinkin' already as a big cow moose was heading south towards town. We followed her past Lakeview, past the Shores, Up the hill west past High St., North down Front, then West to 3rd. She then ran right up Third to Vango's, cut behind the building and thrashed some poor dudes fence. She must have been winded by then cause she hung out there for a few photos. I wish everyone could of seen the whole production. It must have been hilarious, One speedy moose, one speeding white Ford and one Starcraft in tow rippin'' thru town. What fun!

Lake Superior / "Spring has Sprung!"
« on: April 03, 2006, 09:08:29 PM »
After a beautiful last week of March and seeing boats perusing the harbors, I just couldn't take it anymore. I bailed out of work early to launch the vessel and kick off the 06' season. The weather wasn't great but it would have to do. A balmy 44 degrees with a steady SE wind and light drizzle, Perfect! Well, It was definately worth it. Anytime you can have a good first shakedown run and boat a couple fish there is no room for complainin'. We managed two Lakers, one on a high line and the other on a rigger and one nice steelie on a highline on a "heckled" lure by my partner. All in all a good first outing. The rest of the weekend was a blowout with the weather, so we'll have to wait for another good push of sun. Good luck to all and have a safe and enjoyable season.
