Lake Superior / Lake Superior King!
« on: May 28, 2013, 11:30:56 AM »
I finally had time in my busy schedule to get out fishing on Sunday morning (5/26/13).  My Dad and I fished from 6:00am to 11:00am and went 7 for 7.  The highlight of the day was a 34 1/2", 17.5 pound (DNR scale) king that I caught on slide diver (100' back, 125' out) on a Finn Spoon Golden Smelt.  We ended the day with 3 kings, 1 laker, 1 coho and 1 brown.  All fish came on Finn Spoons (of course wink()) in a variety of sizes and colors.  Straight silver (mini), glow green smelt, golden smelt, golden glow (all standard sizes) and a custom black with green glow tape (pearl back) magnum Finn Spoon.  I've only fished twice this spring and I haven't been fishing with my Dad yet this year, so it was great way to start off the 2013 season with him!  That 17.5 pound king is my personal best out of Lake Superior.  I have caught a number of spring kings in the 15-16 pound class over the years but nothing quite like that king on Sunday!  Needless to say that there was bit of hooting, hollering and high fives after that one hit the deck!  A very memorable morning!

Here are a few pic's....

Lake Michigan / TT News - Big Fish in South Haven
« on: May 20, 2013, 02:49:32 PM »
I thought this information from last weekends Tournament Trail event in South Haven would interest a lot of you!  There are some very big fish being caught in the south end of Lake Michigan right now.  Those are some HUGE weights for mid May!

South Haven Results

Big fish made the big news at the South Haven Steelheaders Pro/Am last weekend.  Five 20+ pound kings made their way across the 333 scales and over a dozen weighed in at 19 or more. In fact, 38 kings were weighed on day 1 alone and their average weight was 17.25 pounds!  That should bode well for even more big kings as the season goes on.

While the big fish were prominent, overall it was tough to get the tournament limits of Catch 15 / Weigh 12 across all divisions. That challenge made for a wide open contest and an exciting finish on day 2.  Here's the top 5's:

PRO DIVISION:
1:  516.55 - Best Chance Too
2:  464.70 - Giv-N-The-Bird
3:  430.25 - KC-1
4:  430.20 - Living The Dream
5:  393.40 - Break Time

AM DIVISION
1:  432.20 - Grimm Reaper
2:  403.90 - Double Down
3:  379.70 - Quality Time
4:  368.85 - Tenacious II
5:  346.45 - Get Bent

333
1: 59.25 - Break Time
2: 58.45 - Quality Time
3: 57.60 - KC-1
4: 56.20 - Grimm Reaper
5: 55.40 - Double Down

SHOOT OUT (1-Day)
1: 211.45 - Quality Time
2: 160.85 - Sun Dog
3: 159.45 - Tail Chaser
4: 153.40 - My Tyme
5: 138.15 - Double Down

Trout/Salmon / It's official...
« on: April 08, 2013, 06:15:51 PM »
Well, as of 4:30p.m. today, Monday April 8th, 2013, my wife and I are now the owners of Finn Tackle Company, LLC (formally known as Finn Spoons LLC).  We are very excited to be part of the business side of the fishing industry.  I have wanted to be involved in something like this for a very long time and when this opportunity present itself I jumped on it.  Finn Spoons have been around for almost 60 years (1954) and we hope to only improve the options available for anglers.  We are planning on introducing some new colors this year in a variety of the sizes available.  We have a lot of work ahead of us and are hoping for continued support from the Finn Spoon loyalists in the trout and salmon world.  The contact information has already been updated on the website and look for positive changes to appear there in the near future.  We will have a booth at the upcoming Rec Show in Marquette at Lakeview Arena on April 19th-21st.  Please stop by and say HI!
We are VERY excited about this opportunity and look forward to helping all of you catch more fish!  :thmb:
