Lake Michigan / Cedar River, Manistique and Fairport!
« on: June 20, 2006, 11:47:31 PM »
Well it sounds like a few guys have been down giving Fairport a try.  Great posts Randy, the info is VERY much appreciated!  Has anybody tried or heard anything about Manistique or Cedar River.  These are both real good ports and take less time and gas to get to.  Not much but enough to add up over a season of chasing salmon.  The marina is great in Cedar River and there is some lodging available.  I think if enough guys went there we'd have a great time.  If anyone hears anything from these ports PLEASE post the info.  Thanks!!

I'm actually thinking about heading down east this up coming weekend.  Yes, to chase some "grease".  I owe buddy a fishing trip with his kids, so I was thinking about going down that way this weekend.  Plus with the new addition to the Scale Chaser Team arriving this past weekend (June18th, Father's Day), I'm gonna stay close these next few weekends!  Any tips would be much appreciated.  I haven't been down that way since the morning of my wedding 2 years ago (June 26).  The weather is looking pretty good.  It will be nice for me to just be back on the water again!

I have heard the same thing.  Some fish are there and only more to come.  Either way if you go down there and only catch a few, it still beats a bunch of old lake trout.  That's just me though!

Lake Superior / Tournament Trail in the U.P.
« on: June 07, 2006, 08:58:13 AM »
If any of you know what the Tournament Trail is all about then you'll be as excited as I am to know they are having any event in Grand Marais.  Its Aug.5-6, 2006.  Lets try to get as many boats there as possible to show them that the U.P. is a great place to have an event.  I got an e-mail from Fred (tournament director) saying they planned it to late to get it in the magazine but they are really hoping it will get a good showing.  He asked me if I could help him promote it up here to make it a success.  So thats why I'm posting on here, to try to let everybody know about it!   He also said, its kind of an experimental event for the U.P.  I know its not the best place to experiment in the U.P. but if it gets a good turnout they will look to have more up here in other locations.  For those of you who are unfamilier with the Tournament Trail, its the salmon worlds equalivilant to the biggest Bass & Walleye events around.  If salmon tournaments are ever going to be as big as those are (T.V. coverage, major sponcers, etc.)  this is the circuit its going to happen with.   If you have never fish a Tournament Trail event before, here is your opportunity.  Granted most of the "Big Guys" won't be there like they would be downstate, its still a great chance to get a little taste of what its all about.  I fished 1 event last year and am planning on 3 events this year.  We should do everything possible to make it happen in the U.P. at least once a year.  Check them out at www.tournamenttrail.net

YES, I didn't do worth a damn.  Other guys managed to catch fish.  Dan Audette won it, again.  He found the right program that day!  Oh well, will get try again next year.

You can't say "only" when your talking about Lake Superior. JK.  Thinks will only get better with the warmer water the hopefiully on the way.  When it gets into that 42-46 degree temp. range, HOLD ON!  That for me, really is the starting point in Lake Superior king fishing.
