Menominee River
« on: November 04, 2016, 02:41:30 PM »

Sorry I haven't posted much this year.   But the river here has been a little messed up this year.  In August or so, they started working on the dam putting in a fish ladder.  So no water has been coming through the power house.  You can fish off the Hattie St bridge, but our normal good drifting areas for trout are not working till the power plant is working again.  Also the whitefish are very few and far between right now.

The question now is: where are the fish? Still in the bay?

While attempting to fish around 10 am today, the WI DNR shocking boat came through.  They were close so I could talk to them.  They said no browns this week, and no trout yet.  Only white fish.  I sat on a rock and watched them work over the river by the power house.  Few whitefish,  some hog walleye and 2 small steelhead.

Sorry about taking so long to get back to ya.  Checked the lighthouse and boom landing this morning, still iced in.  Hopefully by end of week should open up.
Have heard of 2 browns and a few walleye coming off the Hattie Street Bridge.  But fishing is slow.

Went and checked the boat launch at the light house and boom landing.  Ice is out and docks are in.  We have had enough east wind that the bay is pretty packed with ice.
I fished off the Hattie Street Bridge on Monday at 4am.  Lots of guys fishing.  Only saw two walleye caught.  Both about 19 inch males.

Just a heads up for this weekend.  There are boats in the river jigging for walleye.  If you head this way, do not use the lighthouse boat launch.  With these hard north east winds, the mouth of the river is filled with ice.   Supposed to be a beautiful weekend so get out and enjoy it.

Well, I can't catch a fish to save my life this week.  While drifting trout beads I pulled in about 20 ft of line with yarn flies, storm stick bait, Cleo, ect....
River on Sunday am was 39 degrees, today 44.  While I was there the WI DNR came through shocking.  Looked like some big females where picked up.  So it's starting to get good.

If you ask me that drift was a winner even without a fish  :thmb:
