Esky River eyes
« on: June 05, 2017, 12:20:17 PM »

Fished the Escanaba River last night with my buddy, Bruce. We were mainly looking to catch smallmouth, throwing shallow running crankbaits. The bass bite SUCKED! I think they're right in the middle of spawning, and have more important things on their little fishy brains. Luckily, the walleyes are well past that, and were willing to play a little bit. We ended up catching 10, and lost a few more. 4 of the fish were between 16 and 20 inches, so we both ended the night with enough fish for a meal.

My dad and I managed to put together a one man limit of walleyes last night, casting and trolling shallow cranks in the Escanaba River. All cookie cutter 17 -18 inch fish. Perfect eaters :thmb:

All the recent rain has made it tough to get out on the water, but at least it seems to have pulled more eating sized walleyes into the Escanaba River. Of the dozen or so fish we caught last night, trolling shallow running crankbaits, we had seven that were 15 to 18 inches. Good eaters! Also caught smallmouth, rockbass, pike, and sheephead. Never know what you're going to catch in the Esky.

River bite SUCKED last night! All the recent rains have the water high and fast, and the temp has dropped to the mid 60's, (70+ works best for the crankbait fishing I've been doing.)

Time to switch over to perch, bass, and maybe kings, out in the big lake for a while.
