TV-13 CWD panel discussion segment...
« on: November 20, 2017, 10:26:48 AM »

There were a couple of miss-statements, one quite glaring, during the MDNR's panel discussion on CWD.

Specifically, Terry Minzey, Wildlife Division Region 1 Chief, stated that the follow-up testing at the captive cervid facility near Big Rapids, Mi., where two deer from a sample submission of six heads tested positive initially, revealed no subsequent positive animals prior culling of the herd. Here is testimony from an Amish farmer that processes wild deer for area hunters, as well as some of the deer from the game farm, without a permit to operate as a meat processor i.e. no records available of who he processed deer for, or where they came from or where they were killed.

His testimony would indicate that five of the six heads the game farm owner initially submitted for testing, came from cervids killed in the surrounding area, indicating that there is no known specific site (focus) of contamination within the geography...kinda hard to contain an outbreak when you have no means of determining where it actually is!  Considering that no deer from the facility that were culled tested positive, I strongly doubt if this outbreak is contained, nor effectively managed in this geography of Michigan.
