i hope im wrong...but i think i caught a fish about a month ago that possibly had VHS.   it had all kinds of red bruising on it just like the walleye in the picture   not as extreme though.  i thought maybe it got lodged between some rocks or something that beat it up...not good!  not sure whats worse  if i would of took it home and ate it or the part that i released it.

summer before last, someone had posted having caught a laker with the same symptoms you mention Arn. (trolling out side the lower hbr breakwall)

best I recall we were all waiting for the deener to confirm (they said they sent the fish to them) and never did get a response.

I have also read that the virus poses no threat to humans....but I dont think I'll be eating anything that has festering bloody sores all over it either.

All news lately seems pretty bleak.....

I believe that was Highline who posted about those lakers.  I don't want to speak for him, but if memory serves me right, it was not confirmed as VHS.  At this point only time will tell how this will impact our fishery.

I am sure there is VHS in our harbors. Anywhere an ore boat dumps ballast must be full of goodies from the temperate waters of the south. Someone told me that it is common to fill up ballast tanks full of lake st.Clair water and then dump it in Mqt as they unload coal. Granted this was a ore boat worker that was drinking in the 3rd base. Lots of great news!
