2010 Marquette Spring Shootout
« on: May 05, 2010, 05:05:23 PM »

Just a reminder that next weekend, Saturday, May 15, is the Marquette Spring Tourney.  Thankfully its not this weekend like it was last year!  Looks like a repeat of the weather forcast from last year......7 footers and SNOW for Saturday!  I am sure glad we decided to move it to the 15th!!  Lets hope for better weather then!

Same rules and regs from last year.  Meet at the fish cleaning station on Friday from 5-9 to register and pick up your rule sheet.  6a.m. start time on Saturday, and your LAST ROD MUST BE OUT OF THE WATER BY 2p.m.   Dont fish until 2, have your rods OUT by 2.  Weigh in at the cleaning station at 3p.m.  Your biggest 3 Salmon and biggest 3 trout will be your weight for each class. 100% Payback!

Hope to see many of you guys there!! Good Luck!

Just so you guys know, the Boy Scouts 100 yr sentenial celebration will be held in the lower harbor park on that same day.  could have a bazillion young boys and parents around running interference.  So be aware, parking and launching may be an issue also... I think there will be more problem at weigh in time, then the AM.  I believe the Scouts event is from 10:00- 5:00.

For the spring derby, you can leave the marina/launch before 6a.m. and go to your fishing spot.  ON YOUR HONOR....No lines go in the water until 6a.m.  There will be an announcment on VHF channel 68 at 6a.m. to start the derby.  You can then fish until just before 2, and PULLING YOUR LAST LINE OUT BY 2P.M.  for the weigh in at 3p.m.

No live release in the spring tournament.  This one is a lot simpler.  "Catch and keep" only.  Salmon class and trout class.  Best three!

Brad is correct.  This one we keep simple.  3 Biggest Salmon and 3 biggest trout(including Steelhead) are weighed for each team.  Top 3 weight totals in each class are paid.  We wont know the prize amounts until Friday night, and we will announce it over the VHF on Saturday morning with the 6a.m. start call.

Be sure at least 1 member from each team stops by the cleaning station on Friday evening between 5-8p.m. to get a rule sheet and fill out an entry form....and have a     $25 a guy.  You MAY leave the marina/launch before the start time(no shotgun start) (Everyone PLEASE check your Nav lights!)  First line in at 6a.m.  Last line out by 2p.m.  We will start weighing fish at 3p.m. at the cleaning station.  Winners will be announced as soon as the weigh-in is complete.  Tournament officals will monitor Channel 68 on the VHF.

Looks like its shaping up to be a nice weekend......at least thats what "Carl" said roll()   Good Luck to all and be safe!!

someday they should put the steelhead in the salmon category.....they have no comparison to a lake trout!   sure would be a bummer to catch a steelhead of a lifetime on tourney day and have all those greasy old lake trout show ya up!   just my .02          Good Luck to all!!

I agree totally Big Arn......but belive it or not....somehow.....it leads to confusion for some people.  Its just easier to say Trout or Salmon and not have any issues.

Might be something we bring up and discuss again in the future.

Been there buddy

heres a question for Rick.......Isnt a steelhead actually classified as a salmonoid?    i read a thread on another site saying in technicality a steelhead is a salmon because it ventures out to the big lake and returns to its native water to spawn....they definetly have alot more in common with a salmon then they do a lake trout!
