I was recently up at Munising Bay and Au train bay, aweek ago and I was noticing that there might be another type of fishing that I would like to do. Will anyone tell me, if any fishermen try surf-fishing in any of these 2 bays during the Fall for steelhead? It can be a really fun way to catch  these silver fighters, and challeging, when using the proper equipment.  I am definetly, interested in the beach, around the Au Train River, in october, considering the time of year, if this is a public beach, I figure this may be an excellent place to surf-fish. I need to know if the local authorities will allow it?  Any information would surly be appreciated.

Public beaches  are for the public, I know of no one who has ever been denied fishing on the beach, good luck let us know how the bite is.

We get out to these areas and float bags in the spring but have never tried it in the fall. Haven't seen any steelies around lately but the coho are around and a few kings here and there.

Thanks for responding to my inquiery. I was thinking that with water temps. being at record highs for superior, this past summer, that it may not be until late sep. or early october before the water tempertures get down to the comfort zone for the steelies. They should follow the coho,s shortly after they make their run up the rivers. But I,m also sure that the fish will be quite a bit later than usual this year. If someone would be monitoring the water temps locally up there , they could get in on some great steelhead action. cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy

Even with warm temps, the salmon still come into the shallows after dark to feed

They've planted a lot of browns over the years in AuTrain R. Don't tell anyone but some very nice walleyes were caught in the summer at the mouth too.  wink
