I mostly fish whitefish in the winter and usually fish with eggs, everybody has their own little recipe and everybody catches fish. Some days your eggs will be better and some days mine will work better. I dont know why!!!
As far as terminal tackle goes, I start off with about a 30-36 in ice rod with a light tip but it has backbone also. I use a spring bobber of some sort. A good reel with a good drag is a must. That said many time I just backreel as I think it works better than a drag some times. Most of the time I use 4 lb mainline and 2lb flouro, never thought it would be as strong as it is but have not had many breaks on the 2lb flouro. Just watch for knots in it and change religiously if that happens. I use size 8-10 aberdeen hooks or a small wide gap style of hook. Setup like affliction says with 4lb and egg sinker and bead to swivel and about 10-12 in leader of flouro to hook. I usually only use 1-2 eggs but usually use chinook eggs because they are bigger.
People usually chum with rice or old eggs , I try to use eggs if I have them.
Most people will lift the line every few seconds as this gives the fish a chance to see the egg moving and some days you have to let it sit, fish will dictate presentation.
I am sure naptime and whiteymalone will chime in as I know they spend plenty of time chasing whitey's during the ice fishing season.

When you chum dont chum with CORN, it kills the smaller fish because they cant digest it...
