Look in popil, around apple trees, dead elm trees, anywhere there has been a forrest fire the last couple years or disturbed ground, look on south facing slumps, moist ditches, and on the sides of roads. Sometimes we will go look for a while and not find a one the we will come back to our neighborhood and find a bunch on the side of the road! Where you find one look in the area for a good while and there will be many more! Look year after year were you find some. Most times they will be there in the same spot year after year. They can be pretty sporadic growers! Good luck to all hunting them!

Never searched for morels, but I have seen alot of the big fat round ones that look like them this year. They are pretty big, same color and similar texture, but round. Didn't eat any, not sure if I should.

Some people have eaten beefsteaks regularly, and for years, and then all of a sudden have had a very bad reaction with them.

They are definitely NOT recommended.

Took an edible mushroom class while killing time one summer at MSU. Beefsteaks are in the genus Gyrometra (sp?).  Three different varieties exist in Michigan. One is notorius for causing major GI upset and killer gastric cramps!

Yeah Adam don't eat beefsteaks! They are made out of rocket fuel! No lie.

We have picked 114 in two trips so far, but they are still running pretty small for us. Hopefully the warmer weather the last couple of days will make 'em grow!!

I know, I'm totally pumped. I have a few very reliable spots....gotten grocery bags in a couple of them in the past. Really pumped!

We got 48 big ones weekend. Seemed that they were all on hilltops- nothing growing in the whoop-de-whoops. There were a couple other people picking the area...they did about the same as us.

Picked 15 on friday afternoon, and another 15 saturday. Found the majority in one of my traditional locals. But found a few in a spot that just seemed like good habitat on mossy banks of a two rut. Most were pretty small, but they tasted good fried up!
