Shrooms 2015
« on: May 12, 2015, 08:41:29 AM »

Not a big mushroom hunter because I can only identify black or white morels but the other day I found quite a few whites in an area that was recently (1 1/2 yr ago) select cut.  That area has never even shown one mushroom before, anybody know if it is related?  Was mostly popple, spruce, tamarack cut off.
Thanks

Happens lots after logging, old spores get stirred up , when the ground gets tore up. Always good to look in post logging spots.

First and second year after a cut is very good place to look. Areas that have burned are good too.a lot of times right of ways that are cleaned up are good. Just make sure to get permission from landowner, right of ways are not public, except for roadway right of ways. Steve

We get 10-15 morels off the edge of our 1/4 mile long driveway every year but I was shocked when I walked out to get the mail today and there were quite a few.  I'd guess between 75-100, was a good walk to get the mail today  :thmb:
