Scotty Downriggers 2106 or 1106
« on: August 02, 2015, 07:40:13 PM »

Thinking of buying some new Scotty downriggers. I narrow it down to either the 1106 Depthpowers or the 2106 High Performance Riggers.  Any helpful information, opinions, Pros and Cons about these two models would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have owned both, well, the new ones are 2116. But I suspect they are close to the same as the 2106.

Both are solid troublefree riggers. The new models of course are much faster. But the older versions are fast enough. The new ones have a resetable lighted counter. They are nice. But you can not replace the battery. So after x number of years you will have to buy a new counter. See Scotty for what they claim for life of counter. I do not remember. I have had to replace one so far. If I remember right, about 40 bucks. I think they should have wired the counter into the power supply, so no battery needed. The counters are nice enough, that I converted my old riggers to the new counters.
I do not know the price difference. But if money is an option, you will be happy enough with the old style. If you are all about speed, lighted digital counters, and than the new versions are for you.
There is a big difference in speed. But if you are like us. We hit the button when we release the fishing line, or when a fish hits. The ball will always be up waiting on you.

You would kick yourself if you didn't get the HP version.  Much nicer than the old style.  I'm on my 4th full season with the HP's and still not a single issue, and still on the original battery's for the counters.

I've had both on my boat this year. Replaced 1106's with 2106's. I've fished with both in the past, but it wasn't until I fished with 1106's one day 2106's the next on the same boat that I could see all the differences. The 2106's are more compact. The 2106's have more blowback because they come with 180# cable. The new riggers are faster than old ones. But I think "old" is more important than the model. In 2013 I was fishing on two boats a few times a week. One had brand new 2116's and the other had brand new 1100's. They were very close to the same speed.

You can buy 1106's locally for $499 ($27 more than online). But the differences on the prices locally for the 2106 and 2116's are waaaaaaaaaay more than online. The local prices (two different shops in the Marquette area) are $839 for the 2106 and $879 for the 2116. If you want to go with the 2106's, check out this link. $616 and $673.

2106B has the lighter cable. Check their website for the differences in speeds.

2106B comes with 250lb braid, not cable.  I'm not sure on the diameter difference, but should be considerably smaller than the 180lb cable.

The biggest complaints about the 2116 is the rod holders. They are tight when new, so are hard to adjust and lock in. But once they are used some they will break in, so to speak, and work better.
