Salmon down 75%
« on: September 30, 2015, 11:10:49 AM »

Interesting article in the Free Press.  I last fished salmon in Detour in 2004 for the same reason.

There was a FAQ document on the DNR website about the state if the Lake Michigan chinook fisheries. I believe thats where some of those stats are from.  Most of it does not look good in the near future. Unless you are a fish that likes to eat gobies.

Last year was not good and so far this year my catch rate is down 100% from last year. Walleye and pike are up about 300% so it is a trade off.

Yep, my salmon equipments for sale next spring. Trolled nearly 100 hours this year and hooked 1 I'm pretty sure was a king. Took 4 months tI'll I put a salmon in the boat, and a pink at that after trolling 7 miles. Laker fishing was great, alot more fun, and easy to do with a couple friends. Gonna switch my gear over to lakers and get back more into walleyes. Fished with SteelieBob once for pike and I can see why he sold his big lake boat. Walleyes and lakers for me next year, gonna give superior a try for coho, and slowly dip my toe into the musky fishery on the St Mary's.
