Picked this up from Chocolay River Taxidermy. I'm very happy with the mount!

It was 32" long and weighed in at 14.5 lbs. Not a giant for many of the guys out there, but it was my personal best

Thanks Sniper!

It was in August and I was fishing up by the red clay banks near Granite Island in 60 f.o.w. I had just reeled up my down rigger (it's a manual) to check that it was running alright and that the ball was clean. Everything looked alright so I started to lower it back down into the water.

Once I started, I realized I messed up the down rigger somehow as the cable started unspooling and it jammed up when only 25' down running a magnum Moonshine Crabface. I looked around to make sure no other boats were coming, then sat down on the back of the boat to try and get the cable back in place. After 10 minutes it was still a mess and I couldn't get my rigger to un-jam. So I was going to give up on it, then I looked up and saw my rod tip jerking like crazy.

Sure enough, the beast was on there. It took a while to reel in, once it got by the boat I had to net it. Had a bit of a problem with that since I went by myself that morning. I ended up snapping the last foot off the rod somehow while trying to get the net under the fish.

If the rigger hadn't jammed up, I might never have caught that fish since I wouldn't have been fishing the bottom. Somedays it pays to be lucky!
