Been looking for advise
« on: May 15, 2016, 11:06:58 AM »

Hello all. A few friends and I are heading up north to Hardwood Impoundment in Dickinson county in the UP from northwest Indiana next week. Just wanted to reach out to any of you for a little advise on what's hitting this time of year and things to try. Bass, walleye, crappie, pike. If you have any first hand knowledge  of the reservoir or just general ideas for that area/time of year. Any and all suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks in advance

Warm water species season just opened yesterday (May 15).

It is still cool, so bring warm clothes (we had snow here in Marquette over the weekend).  Bugs are not out.......YET!

I have not fished that particular body of water, but pretty much everything should be starting to get active.  Due to the cool spring, probably lots of spawning activity yet.

Note: bass fishing is catch and release only until the end of May.

Great to know the bugs aren't too bad yet, we can handle a little cold weather. Catch and release is no problem as we are big advocates of CPR minus a shore lunch or fish fry one night if we can get into the crappie or a couple good eater size eyes. Not looking to stock the freezer or anything. Any idea what to focus on? Lures or live bait? Do you let spawning fish be, or target them? Sorry for the very beginner questions just don't get out this early in the season very often and want a memorable trip( preferably for the real success stories as opposed to the usual "fish" stories. Thanks again all. Look forward to visiting
