Detour lately
« on: June 14, 2016, 06:44:31 PM »

Anyone been out of detour the last few days? Have a morning trip planned for Thursday. Coming from cheboygan. Heard decent reports before the weekend but wondering if the weather has changed things.

As of yesterday morning the water was very VERY cold, surface temp on flats ran from 44 to 41 degs, and it only got colder as the probe went down.  The river was a bit warmer on the surface 50 to 52, but again drop the probe and the temp falls off the shelf. There are fish there, we ended out trip with 2 steelhead to 8 pounds a Atlantic that went 6 to 8 and a couple Lakers.. pm me and I'll try to help u out the best I can, it will only take a south wind to bring the warmer water back..

A number of us were in DeTour this past weekend. Pretty much word for word agreement with Johns report.
Everyone caught a Atlantic or two and a bonus Lake Trout. A south wind would help a lot.

Was not happy driving along the lake yesterday. Flat calm  sunny, and the fish gods were taunting me... ordering a cable today from Massachusetts.

Sorry for the late reply, was 1/2, both lakers, small laker came on flatline with a silver/blue clatter tad (tadpolly with rattles) and the other laker hit a dipsey with mag moonshine bloodynose. Sucked driving all that way for that but that's fishing, better than sitting at home. Oh, we fished from 6am to 10am

Heard that its picked up again in detour, anyone willing to confirm or deny this? Might take another trip up on the 4th or 5th if it'll be worth it.

My buddies and their dad did very well last Saturday, 5 Atlantics including a hog 15lber destined for the wall. They tossed back 2 small kings and got several lakers as well.

I envy you!
I once spent well over an hour feeding flies to a fish we estimated at 17-20lbs, sitting under the International Bridge crossing, watching  him ignore the drift offerings. We were standing in the pouring rain on the southern lip of wall up by the trash racks, with a who knows how many feet of water per second current flowing immediately behind us in water that was around thirty feet deep. Twice I could see him open his mouth (sudden white patch appearing at the front end of his silhouette), but he never took. Mike hooked a smaller fish holding below him. It jumped three times before he could get tight to it.They are a gas to have on-an amazing fish to play!

Even with neoprene cuff guards on my fishing jacket, I ended-up soaked to well above the elbows.

Nice to see that some kings are moving into the area. There should be a couple around in the streams in a couple of weeks to fish for. I will have to break out my collection of flatfish and give it a try.

Anyone been out of detour the last couple days? I've been in the soo since the 7th and was thinking of making a drive down there since the turbines have been off for the pinks. It's been super slow up here.
