Oyster mushrooms out
« on: June 23, 2016, 03:16:09 PM »

We picked several pounds of oyster mushrooms, along with a few thousand wood ticks, moving and imbedded on me as well as the dog. Kane covered more ground and consequently doubled my body count...

Everything I saw was growing on 12-18" diameter aspens, several blown down in the recent winds in mixed oak/maple/mature aspen stands. I was surprised to find several clusters already starting to dry-up along their gill edges. Very few with any damage from the copper/black beetles that usually riddle them. I found at least a half-dozen clumps that were too dried-up to cut loose. Three trees covered twelve to fifteen feet above the ground...today I am going back in with my telescoping duckboat push-pole.

Final Tick count tally came out around seventeen.  Some black flies.

Saw one pretty mangy coyote (twice). No fawn tracks on any of the sand two-track sections we crossed or walked down.
